Blair Senior Services, Inc. now offers free “Healthy Steps in Motion” exercise classes at its Altoona, Duncansville, Claysburg, Williamsburg and Tyrone Senior Community Centers and at Altoona Regional Health System, the Jaffa Shrine Center and the First Presbyterian Church in Hollidaysburg.
“Healthy Steps in Motion” has grown out of the PEPPI (Peer Exercise Program Promotes Independence) program created by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging in 1996.
Recently, the PEPPI program was enhanced and revised to incorporate current exercise research and to accommodate a more diversified population – the result of this enhancement is the “Healthy Steps in Motion” exercise program.
“Healthy Steps in Motion” incorporates weight, resistance and strength training into a program that can reduce the risk of heart disease and certain types of cancers, reduce stress, strengthen the heart and lungs, increase bone density and boost energy levels. Three levels of exercise difficulty are incorporated into the program to allow a wider range of individuals to participate.
“Healthy Steps in Motion” classes are available to the public at no cost, but please allow for a few minutes before your first class to fill out the enrollment forms.
