Motorcycle enthusiasts throughout Central Pennsylvania are going to be “ridin’ good and eatin’ good” at the 2008 “Bikers for Barkers” dice run to benefit homeless animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. The traditional July 4 weekend event will be held on Sunday, July 6 this year and will begin and end at the Heidelberg Country Club, Frankstown Road, Altoona.
“We have some exciting new changes this year. We are delighted to be meeting at the Heidelberg Country Club and we have a great new ride route,” says Debbie Pierce, CPHS Director of Marketing. “The folks at the Heidelberg have teamed up with Clem’s Barbecue to offer up a great meal and our ‘route selection committee’ has mapped out an all-new beautiful ride on some of Central Pennsylvania’s most scenic roads.”
The event will also feature entertainment at the Heidelberg by “Felix and the Hurricanes” as well as some fun “biker games” held on the premises.
As always, riders will get a “limited edition” Bikers for Barkers T-shirt, and be eligible for cash prizes and be invited to bid on “top-end” donated items such as overnight hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, biker gear, etc.
Registration for the ride is $20 per rider. CPHS officials suggest riders register early to expedite check-in procedures on the day of the event. Those who pre-register before the event will greatly speed-up the sign-up procedure on ride day.
As a main part of the “dice run” riders will roll dice at the beginning, middle and end of the run and have their scores recorded. Cash prizes will be awarded to the high and low rollers.
Check-in registration at the Heidelberg is from 9 a.m. until noon. A delicious breakfast is available at the Heidelberg at $5.50 per person. The ride begins at noon and features one mandatory stop.
Last year’s event raised $10,000 for CPHS and drew over 500 riders. For the latest details on this years ride, call Sharree Ritchey at 696-2706 or CPHS’s Deb Pierce at 942-2477, or pick-up registration forms at area motorcycle dealers and shops, Heidelberg Country Club, or the shelter. All the funds raised at the event go towards helping the homeless animals at the shelter.
