Golden Eagles girls and boys track and field teams competed Thursday at the Fourth Annual Hollidaysburg Area Golden Tiger Senior High Track and Field Co-Ed Relays.
“Our kids had a great time and had some impressive performances in this non scoring co-ed invitational,” Coach Yaniello said. “Ribbons were awarded to the top three teams in each event. We were very happy to be invited to this event featuring all relays. In all running relays you had to have two girls and two boys from your team run together alternating girl then boy. In the field events two girls and two boys from your team would compete together. The places were determined by adding up all four distances or heights.”
On the track the Golden Eagles Middle Medley team placed first with the team of Lizzie Shields (400), Matt Murray (200), Christina Daugherty (200), and Nathan Kruis (800). Total time was 4:21. In that race Shields opened up with the 400 meters to get the team off to a great start. Murray and Daugherty ran strong legs and Kruis finished with his best time in the 800.
Tyrone placed second in the 3200 Relay with team members Ashley Salyer, Dustin Elder, Lizzie Shields, and Richie Stever with a time of 10:42. Tyrone placed third in the Distance Medley with the team of Ben Ingle (1200), Lizzie Shields (400), Nathan Kruis (800), and Sarah Halter (1600) in a time of 13:40.
“Unfortunately we could only enter in five of the nine relays on the track because of lack of female runners on our team”, Coach Yaniello said. “The girls we have did an outstanding job and I commend them for their effort. More than half of our boys team stayed at home and had a good practice.”
In the field events Tyrone dominated the Jumps. Individually Kyle Updike won the High Jump (6-0). Larry Glace won the Long Jump (19-0) with Ethan Etters placing 2nd (18-8). Rachel Emigh won the girls Long Jump (15-5), and was first in the Pole Vault (8’6) and third in the High Jump (4-8). Robbie Hopkins placed second in the Pole Vault (11-6), and Levi Reihart placed fourth in the High Jump (5-8). The Triple Jump was not contested.
Tyrone’s Long Jump relay team placed 1st with the team of Ethan Etters (19’2), Larry Glace (19), Rachel Emigh (15’5) and Ashley Ford (13’1). The high jump team of Kyle Updike, Levi Reihart, Rachel Emigh, and Bransislava Tomosivic placed 3rd.
Tyrone throwers placed fourth in the Shot Put with the team of Sarah Cox, Stephanie Miller, Mark Mingle and Jerrod Good. The discus team of Sarah Cox, Stephanie Miller, Nick Wilson and Delaun Carroll also placed fourth. The Javelin was not contested.
Tyrone will compete Saturday at the Altoona Igloo Invitational at 9:00 am.
