Shane Gillman and Kevin Henry had three RBI each and Gillman held Tyrone Legion to three first inning runs over the first six frames to give Dick’s Pharmacy a slim 9-8 victory over the Tyrone Legion team on Sunday at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Park.
Tyrone Legion and Dick’s Pharmacy were engaged in a heated contest for the second time in five days, after Dick’s jumped out to an 8-1 advantage after four innings, on July1, and held on to win 10-7.
Tyrone Legion took the early lead after Dick’s Pharmacy had opened the game with a pair of scores in the top of the first inning, but then the Tyrone Legion bats fell silent, until the home team rallied to score five times in the bottom of the seventh, in a last at-bat try. With a bases-loaded hit by Donnie Hunter scoring three runs, and with the tying run at third base, with two outs, the rally fell short, when Craig Eckenrode, in relief of Gillman, got a pop fly for the final out of the game.
After being forced to forfeit to Barman Oil/Russell Trucking on Saturday due to lack of players, Tyrone Legion was able to scrounge up nine on Sunday, but the belated rally fell just short.
Aaron Cunningham led the Tyrone Legion attack with three hits, and Hunter, Matt Brooks, Golden and Adam Bonsell each pounded out two base hits, as the Legion outhit Dick’s Pharmacy 12-9, but came up short in the run department to fall to 8-12.
Golden struck out six and walked a pair, while Hunter fanned one and walked one in relief.
Gillman, Henry and Corey Kutruff each had two hits for Dick’s Pharmacy (11-11). Gillman struck out six and walked three.
Tyrone Legion plays a doubleheader tonight at Mansion Park, beginning at 8 p.m. In the first game, Tyrone Legion needs only three outs to defeat Park Furniture in the completion of a suspended game, then plays ReMax Realty in the regularly scheduled contest following the conclusion of the suspended game. Tyrone Legion will conplete theirn regular season with a game at the Harry K. Sickler Athletic Park on Tuesday, against ReMax at 6 p.m.
