The night was a showcase of the area’s youth stand-outs in athletics, educational awards and scouting.
Also highlighted were the “Educator of the Year” award recipients from the Tyrone Area School District.
A number of scholarships were presented as well as other awards.
The guest speaker was Kent “Teke” Tekulve, former Pittsburgh Pirate relief pitcher and current FSN commentator and Pirate Alumni organizer. Kent was the pitcher on the mound as the Pirates won the 1979 World Series.
In addition to honored guests and their families, there were a number of local and state special guests in attendance to enjoy the presentations.
The Elks Lodge would like to offer a very special thank you to The Daily Herald and staff and WTRN Radio for their help in sharing with the community the many Elks activities and participation in the youth banquet. Also, a special thanks goes out to the Elks officers and members for having this banquet and their tireless dedication to the community.

Finally, the Elks offers a congratulations to the outstanding youth and their families for the contributions they make toward the community.
Awards for the Hoop Shoot included: Paige Burk, Nathan Davis, Ashley McClain, Tony Acrie, Franki Treglia and Brandon Gripp.
Soccer Shoot award winners included: Adalee Broadbent, Carter Johnson, Finnley Christine, Stevie Lucas, Alyssa Brisbin, Ian Schmoke and Brooke Romano.
Students of the Month included: Brandon Gehret, Kenneth Nearhoof, Shayne Tate, Sarah Cox, Sarah Halter, Kelly Pearson, Brock Anders, Jessica Miller, Britney Koegler, Christa Stringer, David Rudy, Vincent Gray, Felicia Fisher, Nicole Moore, Cassandra Zimmerman, Jonathan Harris, Dudley McNitt and Michael Moore.
Shayne Tate received the Ellenberger Scholarship, Michael Moore received the local Elks Scholarship and Kevin Longwill and David Sill both received the Elks National Foundation Scholarship.
Eagle Scouts recognized were: Vincent Gray, Troop 20; Jonathan Hampton, Troop 20; Clayton Hoover, Troop 20; Dudley McNitt, Troop 20; Dustin Weaver, Troop 20; Justin Howard, Troop 104; Ryan Lauder, Troop 104; Caleb Dillon, Troop 300; Logan Harper, Troop 300; Tyler Poorman, Troop 300 and Wes Young, Troop 300.
“Educator of the Year” awards were presented to Eric Feather, Dave Eckberg and Elaine Smithmyer. TASD retiring teacher Cathy Young was also recognized.
