The Tyrone junior high football team hosted the Huntingdon junior high on Thursday at Gray Veterans Memorial Field.
Huntingdon used a touchdown near the end of the first half and another in the third quarter and a defensive effort to defeat the Little Eagles 14-0.
Although the Eagles were shut out, Kyler Johnson turned in a good game from his tailback position rushing for 112 yards on 15 carries.
The Tyrone junior high also completed a pair of passes for another 60 yards. Shane Walker tossed a pass to D. J. Cherry for 20 yards and Robbie Hampton threw a halfback pass to A. J. Schopp that went for 40 yards.
The Tyrone defense was solid, but the Eagles offense was only able to operate in sputters, not the consistancy needed.
Sellers scored from five yards out late in the second quarter for Huntingdon and Scott Minor tallied on a 15-yard run in the third quarter. Following the second score, Nathan Betz tossed a two point conversion pass to Nathan Mykut.
“Overall, I was real pleased with the boys efforts, commitment and motivation,” said Tyrone head junior high coach Dan Plummer. “They played hard and they didn’t quit. Huntingdon had a little more constancy on offense and that made the difference in this game.
“The boys are working hard and trying their best. We just need to get that first win and then hopefully create a snowball effect in the win column.”
Tyrone (0-2) will the Lewistown junior high next Thursday, at Gray Veterans Memorial Field. Game time will be 5:30 p.m. for the ninth grade game and 4:15 p.m. for the eighth grade game.
