Despite their string of recent disappointing losses, the Lady Eagles aren’t giving up.
Thursday night’s 10-4 loss to Mount Union may have been upsetting, but by no means did the 2006 edition of the Lady Eagles back down.
Leading off the evening with a strong line of hits including a double by center fielder Ashley Pennebaker, the Lady Eagles scored the first run of the game when Tyrone’s senior shortstop, Ashley Ripka crossed home plate.
However, the tides were turned when the Lady Trojans took up their bats for their half of the first inning. Walks contributed dearly to the Lady Trojans cause
Tyrone pitcher Stefani Bryan walked four of the first nine batters, allowing the Trojans to score six times in the bottom of the first inning. Included in the barage of walks and hits was a home run by left fielder Ashley Melnyk.
At the top of the second, Bryan walked three more, setting Mount Union up for three more scores.
Tyrone made the strong effort to turn it around, driving in the three final runs of the game with another double by Pennebaker and two RBI from catcher Kim Cherry, bringing the score back to 10-4.
Unfortunately that was ll the scoring the Lady Eagles would muster.
While the score would not improve, the morale certainly never dipped, and the crowd saw the Lady Eagles take a powerful defensive turn to end the game.
Several strong Trojan attempts to put more uns on the scoreboard were easily deflected by the Tyrone defense that played hard to hold off any additional scoring over the final five innings. The final score of yesterday’s contest was set at 10-4, bringing the Tyrone record to 0-3.
Ashley Pennebaker slammed a pair of doubles for the Lady Eagles and Kim Cherry continued her hot hitting streak with three hits and three RBI. Losing pitcher Stefani Bryan also recorded an RBI.
