The Tyrone junior high football team got their first win of the 2005 season at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field against Huntingdon on Thursday.
Scoring a touchdown in each quarter, the Little Eagles received two touchdowns from Josh Crowell and Mark Mingle.
Crowell tallied the first touchdown on a 12-yard run in the quarter and added the two-point conversion run for an 8-0 lead. Crowell then scored in the second quarter going eight yards for the score and adding the two-point run.
In the third period, continuing their one score-a-period performance, it was Mark Mingle blasting one yard for the score and Levi Reihart kicked the PAT. Then in the fourth quarter, Mingle scored from 25 yards for his second Td of the game and Reihart added the extra point kick.
Tyrone worked a tough ground attack with Crowell rushing 19 times for 96 yards and Mingle adding 86 yards on 11 carries.
On defense, Jeremy Barlett recovered a BEA fumble and Jarrod Good and Wes Young each had one sack.
“It was definitely exciting to get our first win,” said Tyrone coach Dan Plummer. “It was long in coming and tough in coming after losing by seven points and one point the last two weeks. Overall, it was a great team effort, with the defense doing a much better job.”
Tyrone (1-4) will travel to Phlipsburg to battle the Little Mounties on Thursday at 6 p.m.
