The Bellwood-Antis softball team suffered through a tough game against Bishop Guilfoyle at Bellwood on Thursday afternoon. Three B-A pitchers limited the Lady Marauders to just one hit, but walked a total of 23 batters in 1 22-7 BG victory.
It was a tight ballgame in the early innings with the two teams matching runs through the first three innings.
Bellwood-Antis was dpoing all the things right on offense, while BG was goibg up to the plate waiting for walks, seldom even taking their bats off their shoulders.
Charley Burns highlighted the contest for the Lady Blue Devils with a double and triple and two RBIs. Heather Detwiler had a pair of singles and knocked in two runs and Kala Reider had two hits. Beth Helsel stroked a double for the B-A girls.
“I thought I had our pitchers prepared,” said Bellwood-Antis coach Alex Sitman. “Put the blame for this one on my shoulders. We did asll the things we needed to manufacture runs and played a defense that was good enough. It’s just one spot that is killing us. We will continue to work on that spot. The girls work hard. We will come back and sooner or later be a team that will be very competitive with area teams.”
Anna Shrift had the Lady Marauders only hit a blooper over first base.
Bellwood-Antis (0-2) will host Hollidaysburg on Monday, April 4 and Claysburg-Kimmel on Tuesday, April 5 before concluding next week with an away game at Glendale on Thursday, April 7.
