The Bellwood-Antis girls softball team dropped a 13-3 decision to Hollidaysburg on Monday night at Bellwood.
Jitters and walks and hit batsmen contributed to an early advantage for the Hollidaysburg girls.
Ac cording to B-A coach Alex Sitman, the Lady Blue Devils settled down over the final couple innings to give evidence of good things to come.
“Christine Pfahler started for the first time out there on the mound for us and did a good job before she tired. It gave Kala (Reider) a chance to get set and into a rhythm before she came into pitch and she pitched well over the final two or three innings. We gave up fewer walks and made them put the ball in play to give our defense a chance. Pam Weyant made some very good catches in the outfield and Christine (Pfahler) did a great job at first handling a lot of plays. We were able to pull off a perfect pickoff play at third base.”
The Lady Blue Devils scored twice in the first and once in the third.
Pam Weyant was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the first. Hot-hitting Charlie Burns drilled a double to score Weyant. Kerstin Myers singled with Burns stopping at third base. Jen Bilka singled home Burns with the second run.
In the third inning, Pfahler got on base on a Hollidaysburg error, advanced to second on ground out and stole third base. Bilka scored Pfahler with an RBI groundout.
“We were able to manufacture runs today,” said Sitman. “We are starting to do a lot of things the right way. Jen Bilka had a big game driving in two runs. She is really starting to come on in her first season as a starter.
Allyssa Erb went the distance for the County Seaters, striking out six and walking three. Erb had a bit of a rough start giving up three runs in the first three innings, but her teammates scored 11 times in the first and second to give her plenty of cushion.
Lindsey Griffith, Alyse MacDonald, Anie Schneider, Marissa Luther and Amber Detrick each knocked in a pair of runs for the Lady Tigers to lead the attack.
