Mr. William H. “Flash” Miller, age 84, a guest at Epworth Manor and a resident of 920 N. Cambria Street, Bellwood and a former Tyrone resident died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 11:55 p.m. at the Tyrone Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born November 17, 1920 in Tyrone, the son of William H. Sr. and Gertrude Funk Miller. He was first married to Jean Harmon who preceded him in death September 4, 1949 and secondly to Ruth E. Redman who died April 30, 1998.
He is survived by 12 children: William C. Miller and wife Betty J. of Carlisle; Normal, wife of Richard Schellhammer of Harleyville, SC; Allen Miller of Reedsville; Donald “Butch” and wife Kathy Estright of Manassas, VA; Peggy, wife of Ray Campbell of McVeytown; Ron “Shorty” and wife Jerri Estright of Bellwood; Anna Mae, wife of Lynn Iddings of Clearfield; Linda, wife of Ron Brandt of Altoona; Nancy, wife of Rory Fletcher of Williamsburg; Richard C. Miller of Bellwood; John Miller and wife Wendi of Bellwood and David S. Miller and wife Bev of Bellwood and one brother, F. Clifford Miller of Tipton. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michael Iddings and John Campbell.
Mr. Miller was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company and the AARP. He was a graduate of Tyrone High School class of 1940 and was a veteran of service in the US Army in World War II. He served with the Military Police in the Burma-China-India Theatre. He had been employed as a utility man in the Outside Department of Westvaco, retiring in January 1986 with 47 years service. He enjoyed visiting the Tyrone Farmer’s Market every Wednesday during the summer season and enjoyed basketball and had been a member of the “Fifth Ward Gang” in his youth.
Funeral service for William H. Miller will be Saturday, February 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with Reverend Norman E. Huff and James Bonsell officiating. A military flag presentation will follow the funeral service. Private interment in Blair Memorial Park will be at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
