The Tyrone girls opened play in the Blairsville Tournament by defeating the hosts 45-28 at Blairsville on Tuesday night.
Emily McKenna led the Lady Eagles attack with 19 points, including a game-high four three-pointers and the Tyrone girls defense limited the Blairsville girls to single digits in both the second and fourth quarters to run away with the semifinal contest.
The Lady Eagles ended the opening period with merely a single-point advantage (11-10), but then allowed Blairsville to score just four points in the second quarter to take a 21-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Blairsvile girls outscored Tyrone 13-11 in the third period to draw to within 32-27, but the Lady Eagles rose to the occassion. In the final quarter, the Tyrone girls held Blairsville to just a single point, while adding a bakers dozen of their own to win going away 45-28.
Hilary McNelis added 12 points for Tyrone, who improve to 4-5 on the season, while Blairsville falls to 0-9.
The Lady Eagles will play the winner of Tuesday night’s other semifinal between Richland and Derry at the Blairsville Middle School tonight at 6:30 p.m. The winner of that game was not reported.
