The Tyrone junior high football team concluded their season in fine form on Thursday with a 20-6 victory over the Penns Valley junior high, at Gray-Vets Memorial Field. The junior high Eagles finish 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the Nittany Section of the Mountain Athletic Football Conference junior high division.
The Little Eagles, who controlled both side of the line of scrimmage, had everybody healthy for the first time since the season opening game against Roosevelt.
Shane Emigh opened the scoring in the first quarter by plunging for a one-yard touchdown and adding the two-point conversion run to give Tyrone an 8-0 lead, that the Orangemen would never relinquish.
Dustin Rudasill caught the first of two touchdown passes, from Shayne Tate for a 15-yard score and a 14-0 halftime lead.
Penns Valley scored on an Eric Herrold 24-yard scamper in the third quarter to cut the margin to 14-6, but the Eagles added another score to ice the victory.
Rudasill was on the receiving end of a 31-yard strike from Emigh for his second TD of the evening to cap the scoring.
Emigh led the Eagles on the ground with 88 yards on 20 carries and Josh Bradley had seven carries for 43 yards. Tate was four-of-five passing for 53 yards and Emigh was one-of-two for 31 yards. Each had one TD pass. Rudasill had three catches for a total of 70 yards, Steve Catich had one catch for six yards and John Shaffer had one for 14 yards.
Brock Anders led the Tyrone defense with an interception.
“This was a great game, I am really proud of all our kids,” said Tyrone junior high coach Dan Plummer. “The key was that we controlled the line of scrimmage on both side of the ball. These kids are a good football team. They have a good future in front of them.”
