Bishop Guilfoyle traveled north to Bellwood-Antis on Thursday afternoon for a junior high girls basketball game. Bellwood-Antis played the BG girls on even terms early, but couldn’t stay with the Lady Marauders in dropping a 51-26 decision to BG.
The Lady Blue Devils were led by Ashley Lechner with 11 points and Amanda Ingram with eight points.
“Bishop Guilfoyle is an outstanding team,” acknowledged Bellwood-Antis coach Chris Walker. “We knew coming in that we needed to play a near perfect game to stay with them. We played even with them the first quarter. The score was 13-13 after the first quarter, then BG picked it up a notch in the second and outscored us 18-2. We hung tough and gave our best effort, and that’s all I can ask. It just wasn’t enough tonight as we were outmatched. I told the girls not to let this game take away from everything we accomplished this season. We had a great season and they can be proud to say they were Juniata Valley League champs.
Christine Conrad led the BG Lady Marauders (14-6) with 13 points.
Bellwood-Antis concludes their season 13-7 overall and 12-2 in the Juniata Valley league, with a share of the JVL title.
