The Bellwood-Antis and Tyrone girls volleyball teams collided at Bellwood on Thursday evening. The B-A girls won three straight games, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-8, to improve to 17-1 with district playoffs to come. Tyrone drops to 4-12.
Lauren Carter paced the Lady Blue Devils with 18 service points, including three aces, eight kills, two digs and five blocks. Stephanie Hatch added nine kills and five blocks along with four service points and Nicole Ross and Lauren Leap each contributed five service points and Elyse Schreckengost had four points, three kills and two digs.
Emily Lloyd led the Lady Eagles with six service points and two kills. Katie Whitby, who recently became the all-time career assist leader at Tyrone, has five assists and Katie Schreckengost had three digs.
“Bellwood-Antis has a nice team,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “They have proven that all year long. In the course of the games, we had a lot of trouble trying to get rallies going. Everytime we tried, one of their big middles (Stephanie Hatch and Lauren Carter) would put an end to it. You can see the value of the Bellwood junior high program starting to come through.
“This is our final game. It has been a long season and we didn’t get what we wanted. This team of girls on their best day were better than any other team I have coached. Inconsistency was a problem however. I will miss the seniors from this team, but I’m looking forward to next year.”
Bellwood-Antis also won the junior varsity match two games to none defeating the Lady Eagles 25-9 and 25-16.
Meredith Palmer led the Bellwood-Antis Jayvees with 10 service points, including seven aces and two kills.
