The Tyrone junior high girls basketball team traveled to Williamsburg on Monday for the first of three games this week.
The Lady Blue Pirates continued their fine season with a 51-33 win putting three girls in double figures in scoring. In improving to 14-1, Williamsburg was led by Brooke Zimmerman with 12 points and Danieele Peck and Chelsey Rhodes each added 11.
The Lady Eagles (4-7) were led by 12 points by Stefani Bryan and eight points and eight rebounds by Elizabeth Tepsic.
“Stefani Bryan played a great complete game,” said Tyrone coach Kerry Naylor. “ Stefani did everything. She was there for put-backs and running the break We played really well although the score doesn’t show it.
“We were up early, we handled their pressure pretty well, then all of a sudden, one girl hit three straight three=pointers to take the lead. They didn’t run away from us so much as they edged us by a few points each quarter and in the end it added up. Our girls adjusted to their game, but they have some kids who can shoot. I have to tip my hat to Williamsburg. This game has no league or playoff connections, but playing a team like Williamsburg will make us better for the game with Lewistown today.”
There was no score kept for the seventh and eight grade game.
The Lady Eagles play Lewistown today at home at 3:15 p.m. and then travel to Bellefonte on Thursday for a 4 p.m. start.
