The Bellwood-Antis junior high football team maintained their perfect record on Thursday night.
The Little Blue Devils (4-0) turned in their third shutout in four games in hammering Bishop Guilfoyle 28-0.
Josh Kleinfelter scored touchdowns on a three-yard run, a 46-yard pass from quarterback Evan Hughes and returned the second-half kickoff 80 yards for a TD. Devon Clapper caught a 53-yard TD pass from Hughes in the second quarter. In addition to two touchdown passes, Hughes also completed a toss to Clapper for a two-point conversion. Adam Mueller and Evan Celmo each kicked one extra point for the Blue Devils.
Bellwood-Antis kicked off to begin the game. Josh Kleiner intercepted a trick halfback pass and several plays later, Kleinfelter scored from two yards out.
After Hughes connected with Kleinfelter for the second TD, Bishop Guilfoyle, using more trick plays, including a muddle-huddle, marched to the BA-8. B-A lineman Tyler Narehood made a big hit at that point, in the BG backfield to cause a fumble and disrupt the scoring threat.
Bellwood-Antis Coach Charlie Burch then delved down into the B-A book of tricks himself, calling for a fake punt on a fourth and two at the BA-20. With less than a minute to play in the second quarter, Devon Clapper tossed a big pass to Blaze Winterstein to move the sticks for a first down and minutes later, found Clapper for a 53-yard TD pass and a 21-0 halftime advantage.
“The kids were really fired up for this game,” said Burch. “We absolutely dominated BG on defense. In the 11 years I have been associated as a coach in this program, this was the most pumped up I have seen our kids. I couldn’t have written up a better script for this game. The kids showed up to play full of fire and wouldn’t allow any distraction to get in their way.”
The Bellwood-Antis junior high will host Penns Valley next Thursday at 6 p.m.
