Both Bellwood-Antis cross country teams improved to 4-0 on Tuesday at Mount Union.
The Blue Devil boys dusted off the host trojans 15-50 with the top five spots in the dual, and defeated Juniata Valley handily as well 16-42.
Will Edwards (18:17), Aaron Bell (18:27), Jason Nedimyer (19:08) and Brandon Beech (19:21) dominated the race in placing one through four overall. Josh Ervine (19:57) finished in the sixth spot and Mike Thomas (20:09) was eighth.
Juniata Valley’s Brock Scott (19:47) was the only non-BA runner to finishe under 20:00.
Mount Union did not have a runner in the top 10.
“Our boys ran 1-2-3-4 and Will and Aaron both ran great races, that would have been even better,” explained Bellwood-Antis coach Julie Roseborough. “Those two got off the course and ran in front of a set of bleachers, instead of behind them. By the time they heard us yelling and got back on the course, behind the bleachers, they had lost 30-35 seconds off their times.”
The Lady Blue Devils defeated Mount Union 17-41 and Juniata Valley 20-37 to match the Bellwood-Antis boys at 4-0.
The feature attraction was the anticipated dual between Lady Blue Devil Allison Cherry and Juniata Valley’s Katie Weiko. Cherry won the race in 20:30, just two seconds in front of Weiko (20:32) to take top honors.
Cherry’s teammates Jenna Ralston (third in 24:11), Sarah Bell (fourth in 25:00) and Cathy Mock (fifth in 25:52) rounded out the top five girls. Rachel Bilka finished ninth for B-A in 27:14. Cherry is a senior, Ralston is a junior and Bell, Mock and Bikka are all ninth graders.
Mount Union’s top girl was Corbin, who finished sixth overall in 26:59.
“The girls race between Allison Cherry and katie weiko was outstanding,” said coach Roseborough. “They were well out in front of the rest of the girls and finished just two seconds apart. They both really rane great races.
“Our kids down the line all did a better job today than in our first competition.”
The Bellwood-Antis cross coutry teams are in action again next Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Bishop Guilfoyle, with the starting gun set for 4 p.m.
