Did everyone enjoy their Labor Day weekend? If you call doing laundry and cleaning house enjoyment, then I had a great one.
Congratulations to both Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis fans for their conduct on Friday night. Fans behaved well during the Backyard Brawl and didn’t get rowdy or upset when the delay for lightning took place before the start of the fourth quarter.
The Altoona Curve makes its Eastern League playoff debut this week. The Curve set attendance records for the 2003 season, but could run into problems with attendance at home for the playoffs. Tyrone and Altoona have home football games on Friday night and Bellwood-Antis and Bishop Guilfoyle have home games on Saturday night. Add to that home games by Penn State and Pitt on Saturday and it will be tough for the Curve to sell out their home games in the series.
Did you know there is a former Tyrone resident in the major leagues? Mike Gonzalez, who is currently a reliever for the Pirates, lived with Linda and Larry Strong last year.
Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Tyrone Borough Council will hold its meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
Let’s hope that Team Ten LLC. can close on the paper mill this week and get started on the way to providing 170 jobs that will benefit the Tyrone area. It will be music to many ears when the whistle blows again.
Congratulations to the Tyrone Police Department and the Blair County Drug Task Force for the hard work by the unit to start ridding our streets of drugs. Lets hope there are more arrests to come.
Enjoy your week and we’ll talk again soon.
