Tyrone hosted Bellefonte in girls junior high basketball action on Thursday afternoon.
The visitors defeated the Lady Eagles ninth grade team 26-22 to drop the Tyrone ninth graders to 4-10.
Tyrone was able to find the net on just nine of 59 shots for head coach Kerry Naylor and assistant Jim Cushion.
“We knew what they were going to do,” said coach Naylor. “We held them to 12 second-half points and limited their leading scorer to only four points after she got 10 points in the first half. We did everything we wanted to, except get our shots to drop.”
Tiffany Bradford led the way for Tyrone with eight points and four assists. Sharon Long had fiven points for the Lady Eagles and Carlee Roth scored four.
Bellefonte was led by Clowser with a game-high 14 points.
The Tyrone seventh/eighth grade girls won took a big lead in the first half and went on to win their game against Bellefonte 18-10.
Elizabeth Tepsic fronted the Lady Eagles with six points and Stefani Bryan had a complete game with four points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kayla Corle added four points and four steals.
“Stefani and Kayla just dominate at times in the seventh/eighth grade games,” said coach Naylor. “And Elizabeth Tepsic always gives a good solid effort. She is learning and is becoming a real leader. She is going to be a very good basketball player. Everybody gave a good effort today. For a team that only won two games this summer, this has been a pretty good year for these girls. They are 8-5-1 now. With five more games left, they only need one more win to match the most wins of any seventh/eighth grade team since coach Cushion and I have coached here.”
