The Tyrone girls volleyball team hosted a powerful Bishop Guilfoyle squad on Thursday night.
The BG Lady Marauders won two of three to stretch their record to 15-1 and drop Tyrone to 13-3. Bishop Guilfoyle has lost just one of the last 57 conference matches.
The Lady Eagles won the first game of the match 15-9, before Bishop Guilfoyle rallied to take the final two 15-1 and 15-4.
Stephanie Catich led the Tyrone girls with 13 service points and Lauren Haag had six kills.
“We played well the first game,” siad Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg, “but our passing broke down in the second and third games and we weren’t able to stay aggressive because of it. We didn’t served very well all night and that just won’t get it done against a team like B.G. There were some things that I didn’t adjust for early enough, so I have to take some responsibility for that. I know the girls were disappointed, but we need to keep things in perspective and refocus. The Junior Varsity played very well. That was a quality win for them.”
Marie Donnelly had 12 service points for the Lady Marauders, while Ashley Dillon and Shannon McGill each registered eight kills. Jenna Ciambotti had 11 assists and Alicia Shields added seven service points.
The Tyrone junior varsity team defeated Bishop Guilfoyle in two straight games by identical 15-10, 15-10 scores. Emily McKenna had seven service points to lead the Lady Eagle Jayvees.
