The Tyrone Girls varsity Volleyball team continued a very successful season on Thursday night at the Tyrone Area Elementary gym.
The Lady Eagles knocked off West Branch, fresh from handing the Bishop Guilfoyle girls their first league loss in 54 matches, two games to one. Tyrone lost the first game 12-15, then came back to win the next two contests 15-9, 15-6 to improve their record for the 2002 campaign to 12-2.
Jeri Harper led the way for the Lady Eagles with 19 service points, Lauren Haag had six kills and Jo Turner had five blocks.
“Everyone contributed to this win,” acknowledged Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “We knew that West Branch would be coming in with a lot of confidence after beating Bishop Guilfoyle. They’re a very solid team.
Jeri really came through for us with her serving; that made a big difference. We played smart at the net and passed the ball well. I’m very proud of these girls.”
The West Branch junior varsity team defeated the Lady Eagle Jayvees in two straight games 15-8, 15-6.
Sarah Russell had three service points for the Tyrone girls.
