The Tyrone Area Junior High school football team (3-1) blasted Bald Eagle Area 57-6 on Thursday
Leonard Wilson led the way for the Little Eagles, scoring three touchdowns, gaining 117 yards on just three carries and throwing for another TD to personally account for four scores.
Wilson opened the scoring for Tyrone by dashing 47 yards for the only score of the first quarter. Bill Smith added the PAT kick.
In the second stanza, Wilson tallied again, this time from 24 yards out, then tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Trey Brockett, and rushed for the 2pt. PAT to increase the score to 21-0.
Then the two junior highs swapped long TD returns on kickoffs.
First, Bald Eagle Area broke a 65 yard kickoff return for their lone score, then Doug Brown bettered that on the next play, running the BEA kickoff 70 yards for a TD. Wilson rushed for the two-point conversion.
Still in the second quarter, Nate Woodring ran 46 yards for Tyrone’s fourth score of the quarter to take a 35-0 lead into the locker room.
Wilson added his third score on a 46-yard scamper that was the only tally of the third quarter, then tossed a 2-pt. PAT pass to Trey Brockett.
The Golden Eagles put two final scores on the board in the fourth quarter, with everybody getting into the game and getting lots of playing time.
Matt Lauder returned a pass interception 41 yards for a defensive touchdown. Lauder added the two-point rush. Finally, Josh Hunter bolted 44 yards to score the final TD and Bill Smith booted his second extra point.
Nate Woodring carried five times for 63 yards and Tyler Gillman added 43 on five carries.
Woodring and Lauder each pulled down an interception and Thad Graham recovered a BEA fumble. The defense allowed BEA to register just one first down and kept the Bald Eagles to under 40 yards total offense.
Tyrone also won the 7th and 8th grade game against Bald Eagle Area for coach Luke Rhoades. James Updike scored on a 55-yard scamper and Shayne Tate and Jordan Good each scored from seven yards out. Brad Oswalt added a two-point conversion run and Chad Weaver had a fumble recovery.
The next two weeks should determine the Big Eight Junior High Conference winner. Tyrone (3-0 in the conference and the defending champs) plays Huntingdon next week and Lewistown the following week.
