The Bellwood-Antis junior high football team defeated Mount Union on Thursday night.
The Little Blue Devils defeated Mt. Union 20-8 to improve to 3-1.
Josh Kleinfelter scored on a 22-yard run in the opening quarter, Troy Brunner caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Drost in the second quarter and Boe Latchford capped the scoring for Bellwood-Antis with an eight-yard TD run in the third quarter as the B-A junior high built up a 20-0 lead before the Trojans put their sole tally on the scoreboard with just 15 seconds left in the game. Ron Colyer grabbed a pass from Drost for a two-point conversion following Latchford’s score.
“We kicked off and shut Mount Union down on their first series, then took the ball and scored for an early lead,” explained B-A coach Charlie Burch. “That gave the kids some confidence on offense. We just took what they gave us. We ran outside first, and when theyb moved their tackles out, we started running inside. credit our defense, we forced them to punt on practically every series. On offense we didn’t really have any big plays, we just chipped away five or six yards at a clip.”
Bellwood-Antis got a big play on fourth and six ion the series where Latchford edventually scored to put the Blue Devils up 20-0, when Drost fired a pass to Brunner for a 20-yard gain to move the sticks and keep the drive alive.
The Blue Devils also had a TD pass called back on an infraction in the first half.
Bellwood-Antis has a big game with Bishop Guilfoyle coming up next Thursday, Sept. 26, at BG beginning at 4 p.m.
