The Bellwood-Antis softball team hosted Claysburg-Kimmel at the George Martin Field in Bellwood on Tuesday afternoon. After a scoreless first inning, Claysburg started slowly with two runs in the second but then tallied eight more in the third on the way to an 11-0 victory.
In the big third stanza rally, the Lady Bulldogs utilized five hits and eight walks to score their eight runs. Amber Claar carried the big stick in the inning with a pair of triples, two runs scored and one run batted in.
Claar also limited the Lady Blue Devils to one hit on the mound, a first-inning, one-out single by Heather Detwiler. Jen Bilka was safe on an error with one out and advanced to second in the fifth inning. Bilka was the Bellwood-Antis girls’ only other runner to reach base and the only Lady Blue Devil to move into scoring position, but Claar, who fanned nine overall, retired the side on two strikeouts to end the ballgame.
Claar seemed to get stronger as the game went on, striking out the side in both the fourth and fifth innings.
The Lady Blue Devils committed four errors in the Claysburg game, after making just six in the first three games.
