The Tyrone girls 9th grade junior high basketball team dropped a decision to the Philipsburg-Osceola junior high girls on Tuesday at Philipsburg.
Philipsburg-Osceola utilized a pressure defense to jump out to a big lead against the Little Golden Eagles and raced to a 39-22 win that evened the Tyrone girls record at 2-2.
Tiffany Bradford fronted Tyrone’s effort with seven points. Carlee Roth added five rebounds and four steals.
“We have a lot of kids are good athletes,” said Tyrone junior high coach Kerry Naylor. “They will be good basketball players, but lack experience right now. Philipsburg pressed us early and we got down early. Once we figured it out, we played them even for the rest of the game. Our girls played really hard. I am confident that several of the teams who beat us the first time around are going to be surprised when we play them the second time. We will win a lot of those games, because the girls are improving with each game. We just got too far down tonight and ran out of time.”
The Tyrone 7th and 8th grade girls improved to 2-1-1 with a 21-8 pasting of the Philipsburg-Osceola squad.
Stefani Bryan had 10 points and Sarah Halter grabbed eight rebounds in the win.
