The Tyrone girls varsity volleyball squad defeated West Branch on Thursday in the best of three match, 3-15, 15-11, 15-10 to remain undefeated (4-0).
After coming out flatfooted in the opening game, the Lady Eagles put tpogether two solid wins to turn away the Lady Warriors who fell to 2-3.
Amber DelBaggio had 10 service points, including three aces, Lauren Haag had 12 kills and Stephanie Catich added seven service points to lead the Lady Eagles.
“We started pretty flat in the first game,” explained Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “Give a lot of credit to West Branch. They are a really well-coached team and they have some strong hitters. Our kids were able to regroup and rally to win the next two games, which wasn’t an easy task on the road with a pretty loud crowd cheering on the home team. Sara Mease made an outstanding save and Jeri Harper served very strong at critical points in the final game. I’m very proud of this group of girls. They could have easily folded after the first game, but they fought their way back.
We have a big matchup with Bishop Guilfoyle on Monday. We have some things we need to work on if we want to take it to the next level.”
The Lady Eagles’ junior varsity dropped a pair of games to the West Branch junior varsity, 5-16, 13-15, with Katie Whitby leading the JayVees with eight service points.
